Lincoln Brewster

Born in Fairbanks, AK, in 1971, guitarist/singer/songwriter Lincoln Brewster was playing drums, guitar, and mandolin by the age of seven. By 12 he was fronting his own band, Lincoln and the Missing Links, with his mother Cheryl on bass and vocals. He moved to California at 15 and joined the high school jazz and marching band. By 19, through a series of connection in Los Angeles, he had the opportunity to sign a major record contract but found that his personal life was spinning out of control. Christianity provided for Brewster the tools and the solace he needed to continue not only making music, but to make it in a way that celebrated his newfound faith. He became a much sought-after session musician, touring with Journey's Steve Perry for well over a year. After a brief stint in Oklahoma, Brewster and his wife relocated to Nashville to help build The Oasis Church, where he signed with the faith-based Integrity label and began recording his own music. He has since released Live to Worship in 2000, Amazed in 2002, All to You... Live in 2005, and Let the Praises Ring – The Best of Lincoln Brewster in 2006 that featured the chart toping song “Everlasting God”.

Lincoln Brewster will be performing a concert open to the public as a part of the conference on November 3. Tickets are available here.

John Onwuchekwa

Keynote Speaker

Since his early college years, John has been enthralled with educating believers. After having to co-lead a thriving campus ministry at Baylor University, John’s hunger grew to be insatiable at the thought of being a part of the Lord’s ever growing work. Upon graduation, John didn’t hesitate at the opportunity to pack up and relocate to Denton, TX where he would be a part of a church plant. While at Lifeline Bible Fellowship, John served as college pastor while earning his Masters in Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary. It was in Denton that he met and married his beautiful wife, Shawndra. She enjoys ministering to the women in the context of roles and their relationships. Currently, John serves as one of the Teaching Pastors at Blueprint Church, spending the majority of his time focusing on equipping and discipleship.

David Manafo

Reaching the unreached

What does it mean to be a witness and engaged in our community? How can we be God's living and local presence in our culture? We are called to be missional and active in our communities so that many may be brought into the arms of our Saviour.

David manafo is the founder and pastor of the Westside Gathering Church - a community of followers of Jesus Christ, committed to transforming lives, nurturing relationships, and impacting communities. David brings a great passion to exposure to see young people working in our communities and through their relationships to see people be transformed by God's love.

James Watts

Get Up!

In this workshop, James will coach you as you deconstruct three bible stories (a story of a dead girl, a story of a lost boy, and a story of a blinded murderer) and reconstruct them in a way that will make an impact in your life! Please take note: this workshop is not a boring sermon! You will want to roll up your sleeves and participate!

James Watts is a husband of one wife and father of two teens. He is also an alternative  high school principal, a teacher, and a marathon runner. Brought up in a Christian family, his heart has always been in missions. With multiple trips to the northern regions of Canada and having spent two years in West Africa, James has used his ability as a teacher to help people break unhealthy cycles and to begin new lives as followers of Jesus. Along the way he has had many exciting experiences and has gathered a number of crazy stories that he is always thrilled to share.

Jon Waind

Finding yourself in Christ

Being a Christian can feel for some like a perpetual identity crisis. Half of the time we seem to understand ourselves as "wretched sinners" struggling to recognize and avoid bad behavior, while the other half of the time we revel in our "freedom in Christ" which leads to a supposedly limitless life. In this workshop we will consider what holiness means as an identity marker for Christians and how it impacts both our struggle against sin and our experience of freedom in this world.

Jon Waind is working with his wife Tonja to raise four amazing kids (and herd one crazy kitten). Most of the rest of his time is spent as a graduate student and course lecturer in the Faculty of Religious Studies at McGill University. Prior to moving to Montreal to study social ethics in light of Christian theology, Jon spent ten years as a youth minister in Abbotsford, BC.

Steve Townley

Your secret identity

Do you feel like you’re living a lie sometimes ? How do other people see you, how do you see yourself ? In this day of bullying and teen suicide, self-image and self -identity are important. How do you develop a positive self-image ? Can you be happy in a world where everybody seems more attractive, smarter, has better stuff ? Come learn about taking off the mask you’ve been hiding behind and becoming the young man or woman that God wants you to be.

Steve Townley is the Director of Frontier Lodge Christian Youth Camp (www.frontierlodge.org) , a position he has held for eight years. Prior to Frontier Lodge Steve worked for fifteen years in youth and children’s ministry within the United Methodist Church.

Testimonies

Patricia Kuzniak Labrecque

"I see His love and mercy washing over all our sin the people sing...Hosanna in the highest...I see a generation rising up to take the place with selfless faith..."
Song by STARFIELD

What an amazing scene took place a year ago as I witnessed many youth embrace to the fullest everything this conference had to offer. When the young leaders put together an event, there is no question that God's hand is upon their work and their love for what they do shines through and it is sooo contagious! From presentations and workshops, to fun activities and concerts, the laughter and joy filled the building and the relationships and bonds grew strong as the time passed and left us wanting more....I did not want to see it end.
As a parent and volunteer at this event, I felt truly blessed simply by being there and watching the crew in action and admiring all these kids young and older getting so much out of the conference. Witnessing what God was doing during that time overwhelmed me with joy, pride and lots of adrenaline :) Watching everyone sing praises to the Lord at the finale with STARFIELD made me realize more and more how important it is to encourage our church and community in this way.

Colossians 3:16

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdomthrough psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

My son is part of the future and as a parent I need to do my job to ensure he has the tools and resources to make the right choices in life and to gain a strong foundation in his faith. It is a testimony in itself as my soon to be 17 year old learns to build a bond and beautiful relationship in Christ to then extend it to those that come in contact with him and especially to his earthly father as he seeks to spend time with him and have a strong relationship with him during a time when most teenagers turn away from their parents deeming them not "SWAG". By encouraging our kids to be a part of Exposure we are contributing to a life filled with God's promises for those who walk in faith.

James & Kim Watts

As parents of teens we often find ourselves standing at the crossroads of our children's lives trusting God that our prayers and proddings will point them in a positive direction. Each new school year begins with nervous anticipation and a flurry of activity. This is a critical time. Precisely at this time last year our two teens, Sophie (17) and Micah (15) were invited to attend a weekend event at Westview Church. Neither had ever heard of 'Exposure' but a sleepover with food and friends and awesome music - the choice was easy! Looking back, our prayers were answered. The weekend was replete with activities, messages, music, and positive teen interactions. Exposure 2011 became a catalyst for spiritual growth in both of our teens.
Thank you Exposure team for organizing this event. We are looking forward to and already praying for Exposure 2012!

Arise

Many of us live our lives striving to follow and imitate the life of Jesus and embrace the love of God because we know our only hope is with Him. We give our lives to God because we want to experience the joy that only He can give us.

But when we look at the life Jesus lived and God's work throughout the ages and to this day, we can see that our faith is not one that works only inwardly but also outwardly!

We were called to go to the corners of the earth to spread and cover this world with God's love and to carry on the work of God's kingdom.

There is an awakening, a stirring, an uprising in the heart of today's youth generation to answer that calling. It's a longing to live out our faith and to arise, take our place and to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a world that needs His love and mercy now more than ever.

For any of us to arise, we must be broken first so that we may be made new. Jesus' was broken and rose so that we could all be raised and be reunited with our Father and it is only through Him that any of us can arise!

Experience the incredible with us at Exposure. Arise: it's where it all begins.

Testimonies

Amanda Petersen - volunteer

As a volunteer, I had the awesome opportunity to take part in such an incredible weekend event!! A combination of fun games and great workshops made it easy to connect with people of all ages from all over the province! The workshops were definitely one of the highlights as they were inspirational to numerous teens, including myself. My favorite workshop was led by Vivianne. We spent time discussing the difference between outward beauty and the beauty that comes from within. It reminded girls of all ages that we have all found ourselves at one point absorbed in the materials and societal standards portrayed by pop culture, relentlessly striving towards the ideal beauty portrayed by it. It was such a cool process to discuss the meaning of beauty and most importantly, share how beauty is seen through the God's eyes and what He looks for in our hearts. It reminded me of one of my favorite verses 1 Peter 3:3-4. “Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”(NLT). On top of everything, the worship was unforgettable!! It was definitely another highlight, especially having such a cool guest band like Starfield there to play on the last night! Overall, Exposure is an action packed event that guarantees everyone a fun time, I am so glad I got the chance to be apart of it! Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year and meeting more people!

Isabelle Carriere - volunteer

I’ve been volunteering at Exposure for the past two years. A weekend like Exposure where all those kids come together to celebrate Jesus and learn how to grow closer to God inspires me in so many ways! It is a perfect occasion for teenagers to come in contact with God through fun activities, sessions and workshops. It is also a great occasion for us, as adults, to be touched by God through the kids as their faith blossoms during the weekend. Exposure provides a safe and fun environment for the kids to live their growing Faith and to encounter God. And it is an occasion for us to be God’s hands in the process. There are so many things that we can do and the organizing committee does an amazing job at placing us in positions where we can serve the best. I wouldn’t miss it for the world! Praise God for such an amazing opportunity to serve!
